Rowena Cochran
Rowena Cochran, former resident of Fort Scott, passed away May 12, 2015. She had been living, near her daughter in Overland Park, Kan., for the past 14 years. She was born in Cherryvale, Kan., on Sept.11, 1924.She was married to Kenneth Cochran. They had three children; Carol Sue, Rita Ann, and Timothy Mark. They lived on a small farmstead, four miles north of town on the "old Condensery Road."
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and held various positions in the church as she was needed. She was very community minded, she was a member of the Democratic Committee, and she helped to acquire the National Park designation for the Fort. She was instrumental in the formation of The Beacon organization, and served for 10 years as the director there, and she was grantor for several in the community who needed her care.
She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, son, and two step-granddaughters. She is survived by her two daughters, four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, five great grandchildren, seven step-great grandchildren, and four step-great great grandchildren.
She was deeply loved and will be forever missed by those who knew her.
