Larry Lyons poses with his granddaughter, Brooklyn Lyons, in front of the veteran's tribute she did. Brooklyn researched her grandfather for the seventh-grade language arts project at Fort Scott Middle School.
Students spent five weeks working on their projects, according to Patty Cowan, language arts teacher. Students interviewed veterans, a relative if possible, then researched their branch of the military and the conflict the vets served in.
"There is a lot of hard work here," Cowen said. "This is to let vets know we appreciate them."
