Senior Conner Antonetti shot a 79 on a cool, blustery day at Woodland Hills Golf Course Monday to win the championship of the Fort Scott Invitational by one stroke.

Antonetti won by one stroke over Chanute's Tanner Funk, who finished with an 80. Funk's score helped the Blue Comets win the team title with a score of 331, well ahead of second-place Independence's 345. The Tigers, with a freshmen-dominated lineup, finished third with a 373.

"I know he was disappointed in not playing as well as he felt he should," Fort Scott head coach Ken Klassen said. "It was great to see him succeed on our home course. And I hope he can continue to have the good season that he's had so far as we move into a nother league meet this coming Thursday."

Antonetti resumes his effort for a Southeast Kansas League championship Thursday at Parsons. He is currently two shots behind Labette County's Austin Krewson, whose team did not attend this tournament.

Fort Scott's other scores were a 97 by Camden Stiles, 99 by both Tanner Fox and Hudson Horn, 109 by Derek Bollinger and 114 by Bret Pickert. Each of them, except Stiles, are freshmen.

"I think it was some sign of progress for most of them to break 100 and it was the goal for them today to be able to do that," Klassen said. "They're young, they're learning and they all recognize that they have much yet to learn and are all eager to improve. I'm glad to be a small part of that improvement as they continue through the season."
