Residents invited to discuss issues with controlled burns

Friday, April 17, 2015

Ranchers, farmers and other interested in sharing their ideas on how to resolve the issue of out of control burning are invited to attend a meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at the Bourbon County 4-H Building at the fairgrounds in Fort Scott.

Personnel from Bourbon County Emergency Management and fire departments will be available to listen to concerns and ideas.

The meeting has been organized because volunteer firefighters have spent numerous hours battling grass fires that have gotten out of control. Anyone who plans to burn are asked to contact the county dispatch center. Emergency Management also is considering establishing a Burn Association.
