Tiger girls second at Chanute meet

CHANUTE -- Fort Scott High School's girls track team won 11 medals while the boys won eight in a junior varsity meet here Monday.

Fort Scott's girls finished second in the team standings. Host Chanute scored 162 points while the Tigers scored 70. Pittsburg finished third with 59 points.

Tiger boys finished ninth in the 16-team field with 34 points. Louisburg and Chanute tied for the team title with 81 points each with Paola in third with 72.5.

Tiger girls won two events. Kelsey Carpenter took the 300-meter hurdles in 53.24 seconds, more than three seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Fort Scott's 4x800-meter relay team turned in a time of 12:33 as the only entrant in that event.

Carpenter took second in the pole vault, clearing 6 feet, 6 inches. The winning height was 7 feet event. Also finishing second in their events were Madi Larson in triple jump at 27' 10 3/4" and Paxsten Eads in the 3,200 meters in 14:12.56.

Asia Farrington took third in the 800-meter run in 2:51.59, Kristal Castillo was fourth in 2:53.89 and Mallory Westhoff finished fifth in 2:54.30. The 4x400-meter relay team was third in 4:58.14.

Kharsyn Dwyer won two medals. She finished fourth in triple jump at 26' 11" and fifth in high jump, clearing 4' 4".

Third place was the highest finish for any of Fort Scott's boys. Henry Witt finished the 1,600 meters in 5:17.44. Wyatt Tourtillott had an effort of 111' 1" in javelin. And Antwaun Martinez cleared 34' 10" in triple jump.

Austin Cook was fourth in shot put with a mark of 37' 5". Tourtillott was fifth in long jump at 15' 11". The 4x400 relay was fifth in 4:12.70.

Witt finished in sixth place in the 3,200 in 13:01.90. And Gunnar Brown was sixth in the 800 in 2:28.11.

The Tiger JV will take part in a meet at Paola Monday. The first events are slated for 3:30 p.m.
