Eagles boys win title
OSWEGO -- Uniontown's boys' track team captured the Oswego meet Tuesday, with the girls also getting a number of top placings.
"We had a great day of track," UHS coach Jackie Hall said. "Our athletes competed well, even in the windy conditions.
"Our boys' team finished in first place. It has been several years since either of our teams have brought home a plaque from this meet."
The Eagles finished with 107 points, outdistancing a field that included Afton, Okla., Altoona-Midway, Commerce, Okla., Diamond,, Mo., Fairland, Okla., Oswego, Marmaton Valley, and St. Paul.
Cole Schafer earned a first-place medal for the Eagles in the long jump at 18-9 ¼ and a second in the 200 meters.
Tommy Joles placed fifth in the long jump.
John Reed earned third in the high jump and Ben George fourth, with George also running third in the 800 meters.
Zach Davis finished second in the 1,600 meters.
Gavin Miller notched second in the 110-meter high hurdles, a second in the 300 intermediate hurdles, and a fourth in the javelin.
Josh Wisely took sixth in the 100 meters and third in the 200 meters.
Nick Ragan placed sixth in the 400 meters.
Jon Harp picked up a pair of placings, with a second in the 3200 meters and a fourth in the 800.
Zach Schwalm finished second in the discus and sixth in the shot.
Shawn Wisely placed third in the javelin.
The 4x100 relay team wound up third. The group was comprised of Schafer, Joles, Wisley, and Reed.
The 4x400 relay of Ragan, George, Davis, and Joles was fifth.
In the girls' competition, Shalina Harper won the 800 meters in 2:38 and also picked up a second-place finish in the javelin.
Jimme Keller wound up sixth in the 100 and third in the 200.
The 4x100 relay team of Lorenza Burris, Lindsay Nietfeld, Harper, and Keller was sixth.
Uniontown's girls team scored 26 points. Diamond won the girls' division with 98 points.
Uniontown's next meet will be April 21 at Burlington with Waverly hosting. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
