No. 17 Crowder rolls by Greyhounds, 12-1
NEOSHO, Mo. -- Fort Scott Community College's baseball team played its fifth game in three days Tuesday and the outcome was probably what would be expected when a team that's played a lot of games in a short amount of time plays a nationally-ranked squad.
The Roughriders are 17-8 this season and ranked No. 17 in the NJCAA Division I poll. The NJCAA website shows that Crowder is now 11-1 at home this season while just 6-7 away from home.
Fort Scott's only run scored in the top of the second inning. Jedd Andrade led off the inning with a single to right, moved to second on a passed ball, then to third on a wild pitch, scoring on Mitch Sloan's single to left.
Sloan was 3 for 3 for the Greyhounds, who fell to 16-18 on the season. The 12 runs are the most they've allowed in a game this season.
Crowder broke a 3-game losing streak, led by leadoff batter Justin Sunde and No. 2 batter Trey Turner, who combined to go 7 for 10 and score 5 runs. Sunde was 4 for 5 while Turner was 3 for 5, including a 2-run home run in the second inning, with 5 runs batted in. Third baseman Garrett Mays was also 3 for 5.
Brendan Janes (1-1), the first of four Greyhound pitchers, took the loss. He lasted 1 1/3 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 6 hits. He didn't walk anyone and struck out 2 Roughriders.
Bryce Colt (1-0) went the first 4 innings for Crowder, allowing one run on 6 hits and one walk with one strikeout.
The Greyhounds will step back into Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division play Thursday when they travel to Highland. The teams will meet at Lions Field Saturday.
