Visiting Longview held off a Fort Scott Community College rally in the bottom of the ninth inning at Lions Field Tuesday to take a single nine-inning non-conference contest, 8-6.

Long-view led 5-0 after 2 1/2 innings. Fort Scott (4-11) got on the board on a 2-run home run by Josh Whisler in the bottom of the third. Kaden Shaffer, who reached base on a fielder's choice, also score on the homer, Whisler's second of the season.

Longview added 3 more in the top of the fifth to make it an 8-2 game. Shaffer scored a Greyhound run in the bottom half after getting on base via fielder's choice, moving up on a ground ball and scoring from second on an error.

The score remained 8-3 until the bottom of the ninth. Jacob Biller walked to lead off the inning. Game Durney was hit by a pitch with one out and Gabe Franklin drew a walk to lead the bases.

Shaffer's single to left field scored Biller. Then Jedd Andrade forced a bases-loaded walk to plate Durney. Whisler's ground out to first base allowed Franklin to score. But Longview reliever Dakota Grimm struck out Andrew Tanous to end the game.

Andrade and Whisler each had 2 hits for the Greyhounds, who had 7 hits. Kyle Thurman was 3 for 4 for Longview, hitting a pair of 2-run homers.

Malik Sams (0-1) took the loss on the hill for Fort Scott. The Greyhounds resume conference play Thursday with a home Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division twinbill against Coffeyville at 1 p.m. Thursday. Saturday, the 'Hounds and Red Ravens will square off in another doubleheader at Coffeyville.
