Bobbie E. Stewart
Bobbie E. Stewart, Lawton, was born April 4, 1940 in Fort Scott, Kan., to Victor and Marie (Branch) Stewart. He passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015 at his home with his wife, family, and friends by his side. He was 74 years old. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, March 12, 2015 in the Whinery-Huddleston Chapel with Charles Kriss officiating. Burial with full military honors and Patriot Riders honors will be held at Fort Sill National Cemetery.
Bob was raised in Fort Scott where he attended the local schools. This is where he also met the love of his life, Patty O'Brien. He was 14 and she 12 when he started asking for her hand in marriage. They finally married June 5, 1960 in Fort Scott. Bob joined the National Guard April 13, 1957. He later enlisted in the United States Army on Sept. 8, 1961, where he served in Field Artillery and First Calvary until he retired in Lawton after 22.5 years of service. During his military career he received many decorations, awards, and honors. Some of his awards included: National Defense Service medal; Vietnam Service medal with six service stars; Air Medal Second Award; Bronze Star Medal with second oak leaf cluster; Meritorious Unit Commendation with first oak leaf cluster; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm third award; Republic of Vietnam campaign medal with 60 device; four overseas service bars; Valorous Unit Award; Army Commendation medal with first oak leaf cluster; Good Conduct Medal Seventh Award; Army Service Ribbon; Meritorious Service Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster; Meritorious Service Medal Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon; three overseas Service Ribbon Fourth Award; Expert Rifle M-16, extension of service was at the request and for the convenience of the government. He served two tours of combat in Vietnam; one in Korea; six years in Germany; three years in Alaska; Gary, Ind., and Lawton, Okla. After retirement he went to work for the U.S. Post Office in Lawton. He worked there for 16.5 years before being forced to medically retire. He loved fishing with all of his grandchildren. He was always teaching kids how to fix stuff. He loved math and history and if one of those kids needed help they knew Mr. Bob would be there to help with their problems. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW Post 5263, and a lifetime member of the VVA Chapter 751. He is preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Marie Stewart; and his brother, Billie Mack Stewart.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Pat Stewart; his children: Kelly Lynn Blasengame and husband Cliff, Patrice Michele Dunster and husband Larry, and Cathy Clements and husband Ronnie, all of Lawton; grandchildren: Kara Maree, Christopher Daniels, Austin Hudson, Chance Blasengame, Joey Daniels, Amber Knoll, Heather Daniels, Kasie Knoll, Christian Blasengame, and MaKayla Blasengame; great-grand babies, Dixie Maree, Dominic Daniels, and Payton Cole; sister, Betty Pritchett and husband Phil; brother-in-law, Frank O'Brien and wife Laura; sister-in-law, Mary Kulchinsky.
