Bollinger, Fewell second at Paola

PAOLA -- Derek Bollinger and Zarek Fewell finished in second place in their respective weight classes for Fort Scott High at the Paola wrestling tournament here Saturday.
In all, seven of 12 Tigers place in the top eight in their weight classes and Fort Scott finished 11th in team standings.
Bollinger, who is 27-9 with 10 pins this season, drew a first-round bye at 132 pounds. Then in the quarterfinals, he took a 9-6 decision over Sid Miller of Class 6A Lawrence-Free State. In the semifinals, he defeated Michael Aldrich of Class 6A Shawnee Mission East, 6-0. But Cody Liles of Class 5A Great Bend took a 9-0 major decision in the championship bout.

Fewell (21-10, 9), wrestling at 138, pinned Atchison's Gio Burke in the first round. He also pinned Ben Hill of Lawrence-Free State in the quarters and Nick Hager of Atchison County in the semifinals. Zack Porter of Columbus took the championship match, 6-2.
Phillip Moran (19-11, 10) finished fifth at 126 pounds. He pinned Thomas Sweat of Shawnee Mission East in the first round. Lazura Osayande of Class 5A Topeka-Highland Park pinned Moran to send him to consolation.
Moran then pinned Ryder Mathis of Columbus before losing on a technical fall to Wes Jameson of Pittsburg. The fifth-place match was a rematch with Osayande, which Moran won via pin.
Charles Pytlowany (6-8, 3) finished sixth at 220 pounds, which was arranged as an eight-man bracket instead of 16 as the others were. Chris James of Highland Park took a pin in the quarterfinals. Pytlowany drew a bye in the consolation semifinal and was pinned by Atchison County's Bratten Forbes in the fifth-place match.
Three Tigers took eighth place in their brackets, starting with Mannie Gonzales (8-7, 3) at 113 pounds. He was an extra Fort Scott wrestler in the bracker, so he was "unattached" for team scoring.
Highland Park's Alex Davis pinned Gonzales in the first round. Gonzales drew a bye then won a major decision over Paola's Jake Maichel and pinned Bishop Miege's Kevin Gaughn. In the seventh-place match, Columbus' Nate Thomas won by pin.
Alex Gorman (14-7, 7) was eighth at 120. He drew a first-round bye before losing to Andrew Adiran of Archison in the quarterfinals, 8-1, and to Sachary Ortiz of Shawnee Mission East by pin on consolation. He pinned Caleb Blansett of Pittsburg to get to the seventh-place match, which Free State's Cameron Shanks won by pin.
Hector Torres (5-12) finished eighth at 182. He drew a first-round bye then was pinned by Dylan Prine of Pittsburg, who is ranked No. 5 in Class 5A by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association. Torres also lost to Jesse Henry of Prairie View before he drew a bye into the seventh-place match. There, Andrew Reed of Great Bend took a 10-5 decision.
Greg Lorenz (3-3, 1) was Fort Scott's other entrant at 113. He was pinned in the first round by Chandler-Roberts of Basehor-Linwood. He pinned Arhrianna Franklin of Atchison and then was pinned by Nate Thomas of Columbus.
Chris Stell (15-16, 10) wrestled 145. Hunter Gregg of Great Bend took a 3-2 decision in the first round. Stell claimed a 5-0 win over Jaden Knecht of Paola and pinned Collin Moranz of Atchison. He was eliminated on a 9-5 decision by James Wensel of Free State.
Ryan Miller (0-2) wrestled at 152 in his first varsity appearance of the season. He was pinned by T.J. Williams of Basehor-Linwood and Keegan Bowman of Great Bend.
Trevor Hazlip (2-7, 1) wrestled at 160. He was pinned by Prairie View's William Holland -- ranked No. 2 in Class 4A -- and Basehor-Linwood's Noah Lopez.
Ben Daniels (5-6, 1) wrestled at 171. He was pinned by the No. 1-ranked wrestler in Class 4A, Columbus' Taylor Watkins, in the first round. He drew two byes before he was pinned by Basehor's Andrew Sullivan.
Prairie View won the team title with 163 points followed by Columbus with 136.5. Fort Scott finished with 65 team points.
The Tigers will host Frontenac at 6 p.m. Thursday night in the FSHS gymnasium. This will be the final home appearance of the season for the varsity.
