McKee third at Anderson County
GARNETT -- Austin McKee earned Uniontown wrestling's highest finish so far as he took third place in the 285-pound weight class at the Anderson County Invitational here Saturday.
McKee pinned all three of his opponents in pool matches, Jake Hastings of Carbondale-Santa Fe Trail, Steven Cronick of Parsons, and Chris Doan of Jayhawk-Linn.
He was pinned by Caney Valley's Ethan Gustus in the semifinals of the final bracket. But he won by forfeit over Independence's Seth Stroble to take the third-place medal.
Tommy Joles earned took fourth place in the 152-pound weight class. Joles went 2-1 with two byes in pool duals before advancing to a third-place bout. He pinned both Joe Armitage of Caney Valley and Cordel Duhart of Blue Valley Southwest in the pool. Matt Kirkland of Host Anderson County won a 9-4 decision.
Andrew Mayo of Frontenac won the third-place match by pin.
Four others wrestled for the Eagles, who were one of 15 schools in the tournament. The top finisher among them was Broderick Glesner at 160 pounds. He finshed seventh in that bracket.
He was pinned by all three of his pool opponents, Mitchell Simpson of Caney Valley, John Deidiker of Osawatomie, and Dylan Misener of Parsons. But he still was able to qualify for the seventh-place match, in which he pinned Anderson County's Josh Hermreck.
Blaine Ross was ninth at 182 pounds. He was pinned by all four opponents in the pool, Andrew Gulick and Tavon Blazek of Iola, and Brycen Gulick and Isaac Jones of Caney Valley. Blazek and Jones were wrestling "unattached," which meant their results were ignored in team standings. Ross drew a bye in the placement match.
John Emerson finished 12th after wrestling in a consolation bracket following the pool matches. He pinned Austin Markovich of Shawnee-Mill Valley in his first match. But he was pinned in all his other matches by Tristan Geiger of Osawatomie, Brandon Lewis of Jayhawk-Linn in the pool and Jordan Ishimura of Frontenac and Manny Jackman of Anderson County in the consolation bracket.
The Eagles' final matches before the holiday break in the program's first season will take place at a dual at Southeast on Thursday.
