Davis to be honored during Tuesday FSHS games
Long-time coach and teacher Tom Davis will be honored at the halftime of the boys' varsity basketball game at Fort Scott High School Tuesday night. Davis will be retiring after 44 years in various roles in education, 28 of those in Fort Scott.
Davis began his teaching/coaching career in 1970 at what was then known as Fort Scott Junior High. In 1981, he moved over to the high school. In 1989, he moved to Nickerson to become an assistant principal while continuing to coach. He moved back closer to the area in 1992, when he accepted the position as principal at Neodesha Junior-Senior High.
In 1999, he became the principal at Jayhawk-Linn Junior-Senior High in Mound City. In 2002, he went to Nevada to return to teaching and coaching. In 2004, he accepted a position at Fort Scott Middle School as a teacher and coach. He also served as activities director during his time there.
Fort Scott High's boys and girls will be playing Parsons Tuesday night in their home openers. Junior varsity games begin at 4:30 at the FSHS gymnasium for the girls and at Buck Run Community Center for the boys. Freshmen games will be played at Buck Run with the boys at 6 and girls approximately 7:30. Varsity girls start a 6 p.m. at FSHS followed by the boys at approximately 7:30.
