Opal Mae Gier
Opal Mae Gier, age 88, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at her home. She was born Sept. 28, 1926, in Hepler, Kan., the daughter of Oscar and Lizzie Goff Gier. She grew up in the Walnut, Kan., area. After finishing school, she worked in Chanute, Kan. She later moved to Fort Scott, where she worked for Campbell's Laundry and then Rennet Studio. Her parents moved to Fort Scott in 1960. Opal moved in with them to help with their care. Following their death in 1971 and 1972, she has lived together with her sister, Lela Ann Gier.
Survivors include two sisters, Lela Ann Gier and Estella Meech, both of Fort Scott; a sister-in-law, Geneva Gier, Girard, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Merle Gier; and her parents.
Rev. Chuck Russell will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Hepler Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time at the chapel. Memorials are suggested to SEK-CAP and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, PO Box 347, 201 S.
