CANEY -- Uniontown High School participated in its first-ever wrestling tournament, sending five wrestlers to Caney Valley's Kan-Okla Tournament.

The highest-placing Eagle wasn't even counted in team points for Uniontown as John Emerson was one of many extra wrestlers from several schools who officially competed "unattached." Emerson finished sixth in the 152-pound weight class with a 3-2 record on the day. He was pinned by Labette County's James Hughes in his first dual in pool wrestling. But he pinned Garrett Thompson of Jayhawk-Linn and Joe Armitage of Caney Valley. He pinned Eagle teammate Tommy Joles in a consolation bracket semifinal. Dalton White of Tecumseh-Shawnee Heights won the fifth-place match by pin.

Joles finished eighth in the same weight class. He pinned Jacob Smith of Caney Valley, another unattached wrestler, but lost a 2-0 decision to Logan Sherman of Fredonia -- who ended up winning this weight class. He drew a bye in the last round of pool bouts.

After his loss to Emerson, Joles lost to Rolston Kennedy of Bartlesville, Okla., by pin to finish eighth.

Brock Glessner finished eighth in a larger field at 160 pounds. He was pinned by Caney's Mitchell Simpson in his first pool match, then drew a bye in the second round before pinning Ty Hunter of Coffeyville. Glessner lost to Garrett Kitchell of Bartlesville and Justin Reding of Fredonia by pin. Kitchell went on to win this weight class.

In consolation, Glessner was pinned by Labette County's Quincy Jones.

Blaine Ross was 0-3 at 182 pounds. Lane Hawley of Fredonia, Brycen Gulick of Caney Valley and Ryan Tracy of Coffeyville each won by pin over Ross.

Austin McKee was 2-2 at 285. He was pinned by Seth Stroble of Independence and Austin Aguinaga of Bartlesville but pinned Chris Doan of Jayhawk-Linn. He also pinned Bryce Blockbuger of Southeast, who was wrestling unattached.

Uniontown will travel to Anderson County's tournament on Saturday.
