Westhoff fourth at Rim Rock Farm

RURAL JEFFERSON COUNTY -- Fort Scott High School junior Cassidy Westhoff finished in fourth place in the Blue Varsity division of the University of Kansas Invitational high-school cross country meet here Saturday.
This invitational is held each year at Rim Rock Farm, the same course the KU will hold its annual home inviational on this coming Saturday and also the home of the State meets for Kansas Class 6A and Class 5A.
Westhoff turned in a time of 15 minutes, 47.3 seconds in the four-kilometer course. But she wasn't the only successful runner from southeast Kansas here. Three of the top four finishers in the race were from either Southeast Kansas League or CNC League schools. And six of the top 20 came from SEK, CNC or Three Rivers League schools.
Girard sophomore Callie Logue, the defending Kansas Class 4A State champion in cross country and both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter events in State Track, was the race winner in 15:52.0. Northeast senior Kaylee Bogina, daughter of Fort Scott head coach Tracey Bogina and 2013 Class 3A State champ in the 1,600 and 3,200, took second in 15:20.4. St. Paul junior Jenny O'Byran, who holds all three State titles in Class 1A, came in 11th in 16:22.3. And two runners from Chanute round out the excellent day from southeast Kansas schools as junior Talia Ramsey finished 14th in 16:36.6 and senior Madison Dispensa was 18th in 16:48.6.
This success shouldn't come as a great surprise. Logue, Bogina, Westhoff and O'Bryan have combined for two State cross country titles and six State cross country medals, seven State track championships and 12 State track medals in a combined 14 appearances.
Westhoff rejoins her Fort Scott teammates Thursday for the Pittsburg Invitational.
