Tigers 8th at Chanute

CHANUTE -- Fort Scott High School's golf team finished in eight place at the Chanute Invitational here Monday. Uniontown entered two players but was ineligible for team standings.

This was the fourth of what has turned out to be a six-tournament schedule for the Southeast Kansas League. Originally, only Fort Scott, Parsons and Coffeyville were indicated as league tournaments on the schedule.

Fort Scott finished with a team score of 484, eighth in the field and fourth among the SEK schools with full teams. Labette County shot 366 in the first 18-hole tournament of league competition, which extended its lead in the SEK to 181 strokes over Pittsburg with two tournaments remaining.

"A pretty rough day for the Fort Scott Tiger golf team," FSHS head coach Karen Curran said. "We definitely took a step backward today. Pretty disappointed in our overall team score and finish, especially after coming off such a great week last week."

Eureka was second in the tournament at 411 followed by Frontenac with a 427 and Anderson County with a 447. Chanute is the next league school to appear on the list with a fifth-place 448. Pittsburg was sixth with a 450.

Anna Pool of Coffeyville, two-time league champion, boosted her lead over Labette County's Erica Gartner in the league race. Pool shot 37 on the front nine and 38 on the back for a total of 75 while Gartner shot 42-37--79 in finishing second. Pool leads the league with a four-tourney total of 187 while Gartner follows with a 201. Abbe Funk of Chanute and Renae White of LCHS are tied for third at 228.

Fort Scott's best score was the 58-56--114 turned in by Emily Martin, which was 24th in the field and a personal best for 18 holes.

Maggie McDonald and Katie Brown each shot identical scores of 63-59--122. Camiren Defebaugh shot 60-66--126. Maddie McCoy finished at 63-68--131 in her first varsity 18-hole tourney. And Natalie Carr shot 66-67--133.

For Uniontown, Kaylyn Crystal shot 57-59--116 t0 finish tied for 27th. Kyley Brown shot 64-64--128.

Fort Scott plays the fifth SEK tournament Tuesday at Pittsburg starting at 1 p.m.

Uniontown plays at Fredonia Thursday at 3 p.m.
