Michael H. Erie Sr.
Michael H. Erie Sr., age 76, resident of Fort Scott, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at the Joplin Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Mo. He was born May 10, 1938, in Stotesbury, Mo., the son of Henry John "Skeet" Erie and Winifred Marie Sheehy Erie. Mike married Edna Gile on May 7, 1959, in Miami, Okla. Mike had worked for several years as a mechanic for K&K Auto and later owned and operated Mike's Alternator and Starter Repair. In addition, he also farmed and raised cattle. He enjoyed coon hunting, draft horse pulling and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Edna, of the home; three children, Diann Demas and husband, Mark, of Erie, Kan., Gail Hazen and husband, Mike, and Mike Erie, Jr., all of Fort Scott and eight grandchildren, Sarah Lopez, Kyle Demas, Trenton, Demas, Jordan Hazen, Clinton Hazen, Jessica Hazen, Joe Erie and Glenda Cisneros and 22 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Pete Erie and wife, Nina, Fort Scott; two sisters, Peggy Cowan, Fort Scott and Patricia Hoskins and husband Frank, Hillsboro, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Isaac Demas and a brother-in-law, Gene Cowan.
Following cremation, Pastor Ron Brown will conduct a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Private burial will take place on the family farm east of Fort Scott.
