Eagle JV 2nd at Marmaton Valley
MORAN -- The Uniontown High School junior varsity volleyball reached the championship game of the Marmaton Valley Tournament, winning four straight to reach the finals before the Eagles were edged by Central Heights.
The Eagles opened with a narrow defeat of Humboldt in the first match, winning the first set 15-8, dropping the middle 15-12, then prevailing in the third, 15-13. Keely Goodridge led UHS with 9 points.
Uniontown defeated Pomona-West Franklin in the second match 15-3, 15-12. Goodridge again led the way, this time with 11 points.
Pleasanton was the next to fall as the Eagles again controlled the pace, winning 15-7, 15-10. Jimme Keller netted 5 points for the Eagles.
In the next match, Chetopa was a stiff challenge but UHS was again up to the task, taking a 15-10, 15-12 decision. Madison Wilkinson collected 6 points for Uniontown.
Uniontown, with a 4-0 record in Pool B, and Central Heights, with the same unblemished mark in Pool A, met in the championship match.
Central Heights won squeakers, 16-14, 15-11, despite 3 points each by Goodridge and Keller.
Marmaton Valley won the third-place match from Humboldt. Each team finished 3-1.
It's a busy week coming up for Uniontown volleyball. Tuesday the JV will be at Southeast. Thursday, the varsity is at Riverton and the JV at Oswego.
