Ruth Bloomcamp, 88, of Pittsburg, Kan., passed away Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014 at 11:28 a.m. at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kan.

Ruth was born Oct. 20, 1925 in Hepler, Kan., a daughter of John (Jack) Absolum Attkisson and Jennie Susan (Byers) Attkisson.

She grew up in Hepler and attended school there, graduating from the Hepler High School. Ruth continued her education at Pittsburg State University where she received a Master degree in education.

After graduation from Pittsburg State, she returned to Hepler where she taught at the Hepler High School. She then taught in Uniontown and Frontenac before concluding her teaching career at the Pittsburg High School.

Ruth was very knowledgeable about antiques; it was her passion not just a hobby.

On June 1, 1947 Ruth married Garnett Bloomcamp. He preceded her in death on March 7, 2010.

Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pittsburg.

Ruth is survived by one daughter, Janis Bloomcamp - Barnhart and husband John of Rose Hill, Kan., and one sister, Nelda Hardin of Goddard, Kan.

In addition to her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by two brothers; Norris (Brown) Attkisson and Sam Attkisson; three sisters; Hazel Cooke, Lavon Holtman and Lois Harryman.

Services for Ruth Bloomcamp will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Smith-Carson-Wall funeral Home in Girard with Reverend Mark Chambers officiating; burial following at 1:30 p.m. in the National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kan. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home one hour prior to service time. Friends may also call at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials to the First United Methodist Church -- Pittsburg or the Hepler Alumni Association and these may be left at the Funeral Home or mailed to the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W. St. John Box 258, Girard, Kansas, 66743.
