Viola May Jones

Viola May Jones, age 93, a former resident of Cavalry Crossing Apartments and more recently of Fort Scott Manor, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, at Fort Scott Manor in Fort Scott, Kan. She was born March 8, 1921, in Hepler, Kan., the son of Joseph Page and Anna Laura Goff Page. Viola married Billy W. Jones on Dec. 14, 1946, in Kansas City, Kan. He preceded her in death in 1978. She had worked as an inspector for Sears Roebuck Company for several years. Viola enjoyed quilting, fishing and playing cards.
Survivors include a son, Robert Taylor, Weir, Kan.; a grandson, Russell Taylor and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Doris Chaplin, Fort Scott and Gertrude Boyles, Wichita, Kan. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by nine brothers, George, Paul, Ernest, Walter, Orville, Glenn, Chris, James and Jim Page; four sisters, Bertha Walden, Louise Pace, Edna Peterson and Goldie Koppa; a half-brother, Lorain Page and a half-sister, Esther Peel.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept 12 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Hepler Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
