Rowena Copeland
Rowena Copeland, 82, of Parsons, died at 1:05 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014 in the emergency room of Labette Health. She had been cared for at the Parsons Presbyterian Manor since February of 2013, but death was unexpected.
She was born Jan. 1, 1932 at Uniontown, the daughter of Robert D. and Gladys B. (Ford) Lind. She lived at Uniontown 10 years, at Bronson six years, at Mildred six years, at Moran 10 years, at Waco, Texas two years and had lived in Parsons since 1967.
Her first marriage was in 1948 to Robert C. Walker. He died on Feb. 20, 1961. She and Isaac H. Copeland were married at Moran on July 31, 1965.
Rowena was employed at the Broderick Manufacturing Company from 1968 to 1980 and at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center for 13 years, retiring in 1993.
She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She loved gardening, cooking, traveling, water skiing and being with her family.
SURVIVORS: husband, I. H. "Cope" Copeland of the home; son, Bill Walker and his wife Kay of Parsons; daughters, Candice Ellison and her husband Paul of Hewitt, Texas, and Cheryl Geura of Granbury, Texas; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bob Lind of Iola, Don Lind of Booneville, Mo.; and sister Doris Stevens of Fort Scott.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, a brother, Raymond Lind and a grandson, Christian Wharton.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., today, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons, with Rev. Rodney Howell and Steve Baird officiating. The graveside committal service will be at 2:30 p.m., today, at Fairview Cemetery in Mildred.
