Peggy Jean Drake, 89, of Fort Scott died at her home, Tuesday evening, Aug. 19, 2014. She was born Feb. 2, 1925 in West Memphis, Ark., the daughter of Charles Peter and Laura Mae (Palen) Long. She married Maurice LaFayette "Jim" Drake, Jr. Nov. 25, 1945 in Brazil, Ind., and he preceded her in death Jan. 17, 1996.

Peggy went to work for Judge Mason in 1964 as a clerk, then she later became the district court clerk and retired from that position in 1988.

Survivors include her daughter, Leah Riley of Fort Scott; her son, William "Bill" Drake of Gauthier, Miss.; four grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and her friend George Welander of Mission, Texas. In addition to her husband Jim, Peggy was also preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Betty Baker, Dorothy Bell, Eileen Rea, and Maxine Conner; and three brothers, William Long, Charles Long, and Robert Long.

Following cremation, graveside services for Peggy will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2014 at the Fort Scott National Cemetery with a visitation prior to services beginning at 12 p.m. at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.
