Lily Knight

Lily Knight, 102, of Fort Scott, died at her home Thursday evening, July 24, 2014. She was born Dec. 23, 1911 in Osborne County, Kan., the daughter of Lawrence Edward and Annie (Stephens) Heywood. She married James D. Knight Aug. 6, 1975 in Miami, Okla. He preceded her in death.
Lily graduated from Nevada High School and from Monmouth, Ore., Teachers College. She taught school for 41 years in Missouri, Kansas and Oregon. She was a member of the Kansas Teachers Association, the Oregon Teachers Association, and was a 4-H Leader in Oregon. Lily was also a Teachers Honorary Sorority member of Alpha Delta Cappa.
Lily is survived by two sisters, Lorna Carlton of Fort Scott, Kan., and Coral Face of Dewy, Ariz., and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Jim, she was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Norma Chaney, Jessie Gardner, and Daisy Heywood.
William James Schafer will conduct funeral services for Lily 11 a.m. Wednesday July 30, 2014 at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Private burial will be later Wednesday at the Fort Scott National Cemetery under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 West Wall St. Condolences may be emailed to expressions@konantz-cheney.com
