Kenneth Gene Parker
Kenneth Gene Parker 72, of Garland, Kan., died Sunday morning, July 20, 2014 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kan. He was born Oct. 2, 1941 in Bourbon County, the son of Kenneth Clyde and Hazel Maude Jewsbury Parker. He married Nancy Lynn Prewett Aug. 17, 1963 in Fort Scott, Kan., she preceded him in death Oct. 4, 1965.
Gene was assistant chief and chief of the District No. 2 Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years. He was a machinist and boiler maker and retired from Chanute Manufacturing in 2003.
He is survived by a son, JR Parker of Garland, Kan.; two daughters, Janet Wallace and husband, Alex of Manhattan, Kan., and Jeanette Joan Manly of Garland, Kan.; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Nancy, he was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Hazel Marie Parker.
Funeral services for Gene Parker will be 2 p.m., Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Cummins officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.
