Post 25 remains unbeaten after sweep
Fort Scott American Legion Post 25 baseball remains undefeated (14-0) after sweeping Osawatomie Post 204 at Ty Cullor Field Tuesday evening.
Fort Scott won the opener 8-0, stopping the scheduled seven-inning game after five on the run rule. The five-inning nightcap resulted in a 5-2 victory.
Fort Scott used four pitchers in the doubleheader, who gave up a combined total of 3 hits, one in the first game. Mason Knopp started the opener and didn't allow a baserunner in three innings while striking out 4. Kaleb Ashe finished up, allowing one hit and one walk with one strikeout in the last two innings.
Jake Bradbury scored the game's first run, leading the bottom of the first off by drawing a walk. He stole second and third and scored on Kaleb DeLaTorre's groundout.
Ten batters came to the plate in the second inning as Post 25 scored 5 times. Chase Brown hit a leadoff double and Grant Goldston followed up with a double. Alex Fink drove in Goldston with another double to make it 2-0 as Goldston was held up at third.
Wyatt Reehl drew a one-out walk in front of Bradbury's single that plated Goldston and Fink to make it 4-0. Jake Durossette hit a sacrifice fly to score Reehl and DeLaTorre's double plated Bradbury to make it 6-0.
Goldston led off the third with a single and then moved to third on a bad pickoff throw, scoring on Ashe's single to make it 7-0.
Fink hustled out a leadoff hit in the top of the fifth. He moved to second on a ground out and scored on Reehl's single up the middle to end the game.
Goldston, Fink and Reehl had 2 hits each for Post 25.
Fort Scott scored 2 in the bottom of the first inning of the second game. Bradbury reached on a leadoff error and Durossette drew a walk. DeLaTorre bunted the runners up a base and Knopp lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score Bradbury. Goldston followed with a single that brought Durossette home.
Osawatomie tied the score in the top of the second with only one hit. Post 204 took advantage of three walks and an error in knotting the tally at 2-2.
Fort Scott produced 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Knopp led off with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Goldston singled to bring Knopp in, moved to second on a sacrifice by Fink and got to third on a wild pitch. Ashe smacked a double ro bring Goldston home. Drew Martin walked and Jarrett Lyon reached on an error, loading the bases for Bradbury who got Ashe home on a fielder's choice.
Goldston was the only Fort Scott batter with 2 hits in the nightcap.
Durossette picked up the win in 3 innings of relief pitching. He allowed one hit and 2 walks while striking out 2.
This was the first of four consecutive home doubleheaders for Post 25. The second will come Thursday evening when Iola Post 15 comes in for a visit. The first pitch will be at 6 p.m. at Ty Cullor Field.
