Joseph Amos Skaggs

Joseph Amos Skaggs, 70, of Fort Scott died Wednesday morning, May 21, 2014, at Mercy Hospital. He was born Aug. 31, 1943 in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Norman Newton and Mary Frances (Anderson) Skaggs. He married Patsy Runkle Harper Oct. 13, 1979 in Kansas City, Kan., and she survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, Patsy, Joe was survived by his children; Steven Skaggs of Wichita, Kan., Joseph Skaggs of Kansas City, Kan., Jason Skaggs of St. Louis, Mo., Chuck Harper and wife Connie of Fort Scott, Kan., Donna Headley and husband Darran of Wichita, Kan., and Betty Weber and husband David of Lebanon, Mo.; his brothers, Jim Skaggs and wife Anna Marie of Kincaid, Kan., Norman Skaggs and wife Karen of Kansas City, Mo., Rev. Tommy Skaggs and wife Jerri Lynn of Kansas City, Kan., Donnie Siebert and wife Staci Motsinger; his sisters, Carol Whitley and husband Howard of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Carol Craft and husband Ed of Kansas City, Kan., Mavis Ramsey and husband Larry of Kansas City, Kan., Judy Siebert of Blue Mound, Kan., Karen Sue Kline and husband Larry of Kansas City, Kan., Peggy Parsons and husband Larry, also of Kansas City, Kan., and Dorothy Gutierrez and husband Clarence of Taos, N.M.; 22 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Aubrey "Bill" Siebert; a daughter, Sherry Skaggs; and a sister, Mary Louise Marsh.

Rev. Tommy Skaggs will conduct funeral services 2 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. After the services, per his wishes, Joe will be cremated and interred at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Fort Scott under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation and left in the care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall St., P.O. Box 309, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
