Uniontown baseball drops pair
ERIE --Uniontown's baseball team dropped both games of a non-league doubleheader against Erie here Tuesday, losing the opener 7-2 and the nightcap 8-4.
Devonte Robinson went 2 for 4 for the Eagles (6-5) in the first game and scored both runs. He got on in the first inning with a 2-out single. Ethan Hale walked and Zach Schwalm's single to center field brought Robinson in.
In the third, Robinson singled to lead things off, and Hale followed by drawing another walk. The pair then executed two double steals, the second of which got Robinson home.
Hale, John Kuns, Jacob Duffy and Zach Schwalm each had 2 hits in the second game.
Duffy led off the top of the first with a single. Kuns and Robinson also got singles, the second of which got Duffy home. Hale tripled to score Kuns. Robinson was out at the plate trying to score on the same play. Hale eventually scored on anothe single to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.
Erie scored 2 in the bottom of the first. Uniontown got one of those runs back in the bottom half. Duffy doubled to center leading off the inning, stole third and scored on a groundout.
Erie got one run in the fourth to get within 4-3, then scored 5 times in the bottom of the sixth.
Uniontown will play at home Tuesday as the Eagles make-up a Three Rivers League doubleheader with Oswego that was rained out on April 14. Thursday, they will travel to Humboldt for a non-league twinbill at the Cubs' new stadium, which features FieldTurf on the infield.
