Four earn medals at Pitt State
PITTSBURG -- Four members of Fort Scott High School's track and field squad earned a total of five medals at the 25th Annual Pitt State Gorilla Relays at Carnie Smith Stadium here Friday.
Juniors Garin Sinn and Chris Woods both earned medals in boys' javelin. Sinn finished in third place with a throw of 161 feet, 9 inches. Woods placed fourth with a mark of 158' 5". The winner was Paola senior Andrew Henn, the defending Class 4A State champion, with a mark of 183' 9". Paola junior Jake Robinson followed with an effort of 162' 5".
Sophomore Nick Woods took third place in boys' discus with a throw of 142' 8". Isaac Jiminez, a senior from Grove, Okla., was the winner with a mark of 145' 3". Senior Charles Collins of Wichita Southeast was second at 145' 1".
Senior Katren Rienbolt finished in fourth place in the girls' 3.200-meter run in 11 minutes, 44.90 seconds and fifth in the 1,600 in 5:26.51. She is the defending Kansas Class 4A State champion in both events and she was up against a loaded field.
Grove senior Michaela Werner, the defending Oklahoma Class 5A State champion in both races, won the 3,200 in 11:11.14. St. Paul sophomore Jenny O'Bryan, who won the Kansas Class 1A State Cross-Country title last fall, was second in 11:25.14. Northeast junior Kaylee Bogina, daughter of FSHS head girls' coach Tracey Bogina and the defending Kansas Class 2A State champ in this event, was third in 11:40.23.
Callie Logue, a freshman from Girard who won the Class 4A State Cross-Country individual championship in the fall, won the 1,600-meter race in 5:11.25. Werner was second in 5:17.17 with Bogina third in 5:23.09 and O'Bryan fourth in 5:26.51.
Fort Scott will be in Coffeyville today for the Independence relays, being held there because of renovations at the field in Independence.
