Friday, April 11, 2014

lf team opened the season by claiming the team title at the Iola Invitational and five of the top 10 individual positions.

Fort Scott's four-man score of 343 was 14 better than that of runner-up Labette County. Conner Antonetti won the individual title by shooting 37 on the front nine and 42 on the back for a total of 79. He was the only golfer who shot under 40 on either nine.

Johnathan Allen finished in second place at 40-43--83. Tucker Horn placed fourth at 45-44--89. Dane Ramsey was sixth at 47-45--92. And Clayton Hixson took 10th with his 53-43--95. Weston Woodring shot 64-63--127 for the Tigers.

"The team did satisfactorily for an initial outing," Fort Scott head coach Ken Klassen said. "The wind was extremely punishing, but the team kept their best concentration.

"Jonathan and Conner leading the pack was a good taste, I hope, of things to come. Tucker's fourth-place finish shows definitely a strong potential. I'd like him and all the seniors to have an impressive final golf season; they're a great group with whom to work."

The Tigers played at Independence Thursday, which was the first of the four Southeast Kansas League designated tournaments this season. They'll play at the second SEK tournament at Crestwood Country Club near Pittsburg on Tuesday.
