Eagle softball downs Jets, Vikings
UNIONTOWN -- Uniontown High's softball team beat a pair of Three Rivers League opponents at George Warren Field Monday. The Eagles run-ruled Altoona-Midway in the opener, 11-1, and Northeast in the second game, 10-0.
"The girls are coming together," Uniontown head coach Paula Coyan said. "They have fun when they relax and they do well."
Senior pitcher Taylor Wade didn't walk a Jet batter in the opener while striking out 4. Freshman Daryan Herring had 3 of Uniontown's 10 hits while Mandie Ridge had 2, one of which was a double
Sophomore Kyley Brown pitched against Northeast and allowed 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 7.
Senior Britney Stokes had 3 hits, all of which were doubles. Lakyn Coyan had 2 hits, which were a double and a triple. Torrie Hathaway and Holly Shinn both had 2 hits in 3 at-bats. The Eagles had 11 total hits.
The wins were Uniontown's third and fourth in a row after being swept in their season opener by Yates Center.
Uniontown (4-0 TRL, 4-2 overall) will host Oswego in a Three Rivers League doubleheader Monday at George Warren Field. Play is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
