Patrick R. Jackson
Patrick R. Jackson, age 65, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. He was born Jan. 10, 1949, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Peter F. Jackson and Geraldine Eva McCormick Jackson. As the son of a military family, Pat spent his childhood on many military bases throughout the United States and Germany. He graduated from La Cygne High School in 1967, where he excelled in athletics and held a record for a 99-yard touchdown run. He later graduated from Fort Scott Junior College. Pat served with the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Germany. He was assigned to the Security Military Dog Section and was an accomplished sentry dog handler who trained extremely overaggressive dogs. While in the military, he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Medal. Following his military service, Pat married Debbie L. Lloyd on July 2, 1977, at Fort Scott. He was employed for several years by the Fort Scott Police Department. Later, he worked as a Court Service Officer for the State of Kansas from 1988 until his retirement in 2010. Pat dearly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandsons. He was recently responsible for initiating the city golf cart codes which resulted in many hours of fun and memories in the making for the family and especially the grandkids. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. Pat touched the lives of everyone he met and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie, of the home; his daughter, Tera Harris and husband, Matt, of Fort Scott; and three grandsons, Hayden and Luke Harris and Dayton Patrik Jackson; three brothers, Mike Jackson and wife, Charlotte, Olathe, Kan., Kevin Jackson and Terri, Overland Park, Kan., and Robert Jackson, of Fort Scott and a sister, Kathleen Hampton and husband, Jerry, La Cygne, Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his in-laws; Linda and Jerry Clements, Fort Scott, Ronda and Keith Johnson, Columbus, Kan., Leana and Terry Miller, Augusta, Kan., and Ty and Troy Post, Ayr, Neb. He was preceded in death by a son, Patrik Jackson; his parents and an infant brother, Wayne Jackson.
There was cremation. Rev. Chuck Russell will conduct a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 28 at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to Care to Share and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O.
