OVERLAND PARK -- Johnson County swept Fort Scott Community College's baseball team for the second day in a row in Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division play. Thursday at Lions Field, Johnson County won by scores of 1-0 and 4-2. Friday here, the Cavaliers took 5-4 and 5-3 wins and completed a sweep of the season series.

Fort Scott (1-5 East, 9-7 overall) has lost five straight -- by a total of 7 runs -- after a 9-2 start. Johnson County improved to 6-0, 10-3 and moved into a tie with idle Cowley (6-0, 10-3)

Johnson County scored twice in the bottom of the first inning of the opener. Fort Scott got one of those runs back in the top of the second when Austin Oakes doubled to center with one out, moved to third on a bunt and scored on a wild pitch.

The Cavaliers scored another run in the bottom of the second and two in the third to make it a 5-1 game.

Kaden Shaffer's third home run of the season, which also scored Alex Copeland, brought Fort Scott within 5-3 in the fourth. Dalton Rook singled to center to lead off the top of the fifth and later scored on a fielder's choice to bring the Greyhounds within one.

Fort Scott had runners on first and second with two out in the top of the seventh but couldn't bring them home.

Parker O'Dell went 2 for 3 for the 'Hounds, who had 7 hits off Johnson County pitcher Derek Beier, who went the distance, allowing 2 walks and striking out 4.

The Cavaliers scored all their second-game runs in the first three innings, with a 3-run second in between single-run first and third frames.

Fort Scott scored 2 in the top of the fourth. Kolby Greenslade and Copeland had back-to-back singles to start things. Greenslade moved to third on a fly-ball out and scored on Oakes' sacrifice fly. Copeland moved to second on that play and scored on Harvey's single.

The Greyhounds scored once in the eighth. Rook led off with a walk and Doug Jenkins reached on an error. Lance Barkley also reached on an error to load the bases. Rook was thrown out at home on a fielder's choice but Jenkins scored on Copeland's sacrifice fly. But the rally was thwarted when Barkley was thrown out at third after Jenkins scored.

Shaffer led off the top of the ninth by drawing a walk but was eliminated on a double play. Harvey singled with 2 out but a groundout to third ended the game.

Harvey had 2 of Fort Scott's 6 hits in the second game. Johnson County pitcher Justin Wyant allowed 2 earned runs on 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out four as he pitched the first 7 innings.

The Greyhounds will host Kansas City Monday in a make-up conference doubleheader. The twinbill is set to begin later than usual, at 3:30 p.m.
