Carl Albert sweeps 'Hound softball; Saturday's games called off
Carl Albert State (Okla.) swept Fort Scott Community College in a non-conference softball doubleheader at the Betty Ruth Willard Complex Thursday afternoon. The Vikings took the first game 15-4 and won the second game 15-7.
Fort Scott (1-10) scored 4 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Greyhounds got on the board first. However, the Vikings (10-6) scored 8 runs in the top of the sixth and 7 in the top of the seventh.
Fort Scott had 8 hits. Christa Merriman had 2 of them. Kalee Ewbank drove in 2 runs.
Merriman (1-5) was also the losing pitcher, allowing 5 earned runs on 8 hits and 1 walk with 3 strikeouts over the first 5 2/3 innings. Randi Glover made her first pitching appearance of the season in relief and allowed 6 earned runs on 6 hits and 3 walks in 1 1/3 innings.
Carl Albert started the second game with 6 runs in the top of the first and led 9-0 after its turn in the second. Fort Scott scored in every inning but the first but never more than twice in any inning.
The 'Hounds had 10 hits with Leah Zimmerman and Bailey Seetin each getting 2. Merriman hit her first home run of the season.
Kelsey Simons (0-5) took the loss, allowing 10 earned runs on 12 hits and 7 walks.
A home doubleheader against Maple Woods scheduled for today has been postponed until April 14 but the 'Hounds still hope to play Muscatine (Iowa) in make-up games at 11 a.m. Sunday.
FSCC will also host Johnson County in a Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division twinbill Tuesday.
