Eagle boys eliminated by Oxford, 47-35

OXFORD -- Uniontown High's boys were eliminated from post-season play by fourth- seeded Oxford, 47-35, here Tuesday night in a first-round Yates Center Class 2A Sub-State Tournament game.

The Eagles finished the season with a record of 8-13. Oxford (16-5) advances to play top-seeded Howard-West Elk tonight in a semifinal at Yates Center.

The first quarter ended in a 4-4 tie. Oxford outscored Uniontown in each quarter after that, building a 15-12 lead at the half and a 31-21 advantage after three.

"Our defense and rebounding was solid early in the game, but we struggled to score points," Eagle head coach Jeremy Neville said. "Our guys never quit, but we just could not get over the hump."

Senior Skyler Riley led Uniontown with 10 points. He and seniors Chase Gleason, Joseph Duffey and Carter Wood closed out their high-school basketball playing days.

"The four seniors that we have are great people.," Neville said. "They are excellent students in the classroom and are well respected in the way they treat others.

"Next season could be exciting as some of our young players look to step into bigger roles at the varsity level."
