Dorothy Mae Stinnett
Dorothy Mae Stinnett, 93, of Fort Scott, died Tuesday evening, March 4, 2014, at the Fort Scott Presbyterian Village. She was born Feb. 13, 1921 in Moran, Kan., the daughter of Charley Lee and Mary Lou (Tackkett) Teel. She married Harold Russell Stinnett in Garnett, Kan. He preceded her in death Nov. 14, 2000.
Dorothy attended school in Iola, Kan., and in Oklahoma. After marrying Russell in Garnett, the family moved to Mound City, Kan., and then later to Fort Scott. During WWII Dorothy worked at the Army Ordinance Plant in Parsons, Kan., as an inspector and also in Kansas City for Boeing, inspecting the B29 Super Fortress. Dorothy was employed at the Braemore Coat Factory in Pleasanton as a seamstress, and also worked part time at the Linn County Courthouse. Later she opened a small antique shop at her home in Fort Scott. She also drove a school bus for USD 234, taking kindergarten children to afternoon class. Dorothy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Scott.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter-in-law, Sandy Stinnett of Fort Scott; a granddaughter, Dena Engelland and husband Tom of Sterling, Kan.; and two great-grandchildren, Kathleen Engelland and Eric Engelland. In addition to her husband, Russell, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, and a son, Bud Stinnett.
Rev. Richard Tackkett will conduct funeral services 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home with a visitation beginning at noon prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Fort Scott National Cemetery under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.
