Edwin E. Helton
Edwin E. Helton, age 97, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Guest Home Estates. He was born March 11, 1916, in Yuma, Colo., the son of James E. and Minnie A. Foote Helton. He married Hettie Mae Beattie on Sept. 10, 1934, in Stratton, Colo. They were married for 73 years before she preceded him in death on Nov. 11, 2007. He worked most of his life farming and ranching in rural Fort Scott. He enjoyed baseball, fishing, trail riding, and hunting elk in Colorado.
Survivors include six sons, Donald Helton of Pueblo, Colo., Dean Helton and wife Sue of Pueblo, Colo., Dennis Helton and wife Ann of Fort Scott, Gary Helton and wife Luella of Carl Junction, Mo., Darrell Helton and wife Caroline of Nixa, Mo., and Dale Helton and wife Alice of Fort Scott; two daughters, Margie Jones of Springfield, Ore., and Mary Sheperd and husband Loyal of Carl Junction, Mo.; 21 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; and 23 great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Glen, James, Ben, Howard, and Robert Helton; six sisters, Anna Bell, Belle Hensley, Bessie Flohr, Bernice Hill, Emma Campbell, and an infant girl Helton, a daughter-in-law, Pat L. Trout Helton, a son-in-law, Thurman Jones; and a grandson, Robert Helton.
Pastor Donna Clark Fuller will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the West Liberty Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m until service time at the Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Hammond Community Building and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O.
