Fort Scott man injured in motorcycle, car wreck
A local man was sent to the hospital after his motorcycle was struck by another vehicle in an accident late Tuesday.
Fort Scott Police Department Capt. Shaun West said police responded shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday to a two-vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Wall and Caldwell streets.
A 2002 Toyota four-door passenger car, driven by Steven Woods, of Fort Scott, was headed east on Wall Street and attempted to make a left-hand turn at the intersection when the car struck a 1995 Honda motorcycle driven by Colton Bunn, also of Fort Scott, West said.
Bunn was transported by Mercy EMS to Mercy Hospital Fort Scott.
West said there were no other injuries in the incident. According to the police report, there were no other passengers inside the car or on the motorcycle. Woods had been wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. West said the police report did not indicate whether Bunn was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
West said two citations were issued following the incident but no arrests were made. Woods was cited for failure to yield and inattentive driving.
FSPD, Mercy EMS and local fire departments responded to the accident, West said. There was nothing in the police report about a medical helicopter being used in the incident, although police scanner reports indicated one was on standby following the crash.
Bunn's status was not available as of press time.
