Steven L. Harper, age 58, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at the Fort Scott Medicalodge. He was born Oct. 4, 1955, in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of Harold LaVerne Harper and Ruby Mae Miller Harper. He married Cho Hillman in 1978. Steven had been employed by Topco Laminates. He also worked as a handyman. He enjoyed being outdoors, woodworking and photography.

Survivors include his wife, Cho of Fort Scott; four children, Brian Hillman and wife, Tara, of Springfield, Mo., Meay Chau Hart and husband, Ethan, Robert Harper and wife, Amanda, and Matthew Harper all of Fort Scott; and 15 grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers, John Harper of Rush Springs, Okla., James Harper and wife, Debbie, of Arma, Kan., David Harper and wife, Ellen, of Bronson, Kan., and Michael Harper of Fort Scott, Kan.; two sisters, Debra Hazen and Rose Mary Pollard, both of Fort Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Rev. Chuck Russell will conduct funeral services at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Centerville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S.
