FSMS teams sweep Iola
IOLA -- All four Fort Scott Middle School boys' basketball teams picked up wins over Iola here Thursday, including a very rare shutout by the eighth-grade "B" team's defense.
The seventh-grade "A" team (6-4) beat Iola, 36-32, outscoring the Ponies 21-11 in the second half. Matt Campbell scored 12 points, Jordan Hall 7 and Tyler Gorman 6. Hall also had 5 rebounds.
The seventh-grade "B" team (4-4) won 19-18 even though Iola outscored the Tigers in the fourth quarter, 6-1. Mason Couch led Fort Scott with 8 points. He and Nick Lawrence each had 4 rebounds.
The eighth-grade "A" team (7-1) won its seventh straight game, beating Iola 35-23. The Tigers outscored the Ponies, 18-7, in the second quarter.
Hudson Horn led the Tigers with 13 points. Jessie Lawrence added 9. Eric Carter grabbed 14 rebounds.
The eighth-grade "B" team (4-1) won for the fourth straight time, shutting out Iola, 18-0. The Tigers led 2-0 after one quarter and 8-0 at halftime.
Caleb Rhoades and Like Martin scored 6 points each for Fort Scott. Colby Page led in rebounds with 18.
Fort Scott's eighth-grade teams will play in a tournament at Pittsburg today. All the teams will play Tuesday at Independence.
