Lester Raymon Gemmill
Lester Raymon Gemmill, 82, of Rural Stark, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014 at his home.
He was born Feb. 18, 1931 near Savonburg, Kan., a son of Thomas Lincoln and Zerepha Mable (Smith) Gemmill. He attended the Stark schools and was a 1949 graduate of Grant Rural High School. Lester also attended Chanute Junior College but when his father became ill, he left college to help his family at home. After his father died on Nov. 23, 1951, he remained with and cared for his mother until her death on March 15, 1985. Lester was a farmer for nearly 70 years.
He was a longtime member of the Friends Church at Stark. Lester loved his family very much and all his family greatly loved him and will miss him very much.
Survivors include: two sisters, Esther Mae Adelgren, and her husband, Victor, of Littleton, Colo., and Etta Mae Collins, and her husband, Ira Lee, of Fort Scott, Kan.; four nephews, Alan Adelgren, and his wife, Karen, of Grand Junction, Colo., Kevin Adelgren, and his wife, Mary, of St. Paul, Minn., David Adelgren, and his wife, Barbara, of Shawnee, Kan., Darren Collins of Fort Scott, Kan.; one niece, Renata Adelgren-Windham, and her husband, Randy, of Denver, Colo.; three great-nephews; eight great nieces; two great-great nephews; three great-great nieces; several cousins and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 at the Friends Church at Stark. Burial will be in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home at Erie.
