No. 5 Scotties roll by Greyhound women, 82-54
Highland, ranked No. 5 in the nation according to National Junior College Athletic Association Division II poll, jumped out to a 23-6 lead after 8 minutes and went on to roll by Fort Scott Community College's women, 82-54.
It was the conference opener for both teams with Highland improving to 20-1. In the four-team Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division II, only the Greyhounds (8-12) are not ranked. Johnson County is ranked No. 1 while Kansas City Kansas is 13th in the poll. The Cavaliers (20-0) defeated KCK, 99-67, Wednesday night. The Blue Devils fell to 18-3.
Highland led 43-19 at halftime and made sure the 'Hounds never had a scoring run of more than 5 points the entire game.
Malori Gales led Fort Scott with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Emily Feldman added 9 points.
Anna Deegan led Highland with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Monique Heard and Julia Alves each added 11 points.
Fort Scott plays at Brown Mackie in Salina at 1 p.m. Saturday.
