Durossette 3rd at Basehor-Linwood
BASEHOR --Fort Scott High's Jake Durossette, the No. 2-ranked wrestler in Class 4A at 145 pounds in the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association poll, finished third in the always-tough Basehor-Linwood Bobcat Classic here over the weekend.
Two other Tigers medaled. Jerad Heckman, ranked No. 4 at 126 pounds, finished fifth in his weight class. And Brendon Blackburn, No. 5-ranked at 285 pounds, finished fifth in his final tournament before upcoming shoulder surgery.
There were 35 schools competing in this tournament, one of which was from Colorado. Fort Scott finished in 17th place with 64 points. Lenexa St. James Academy was the champion with 209 points followed by Goddard with 198.5 and Collinsville, Okla., with 182.
Durossette (13-2) went 6-1 and defeated the No. 1-ranked wrestler in Kansas 4A, Kaleb Konitzer of Prairie View, twice.
In his first match, Durossette pinned Cody Bell of Blue Springs, Mo. Then he took a 5-2 decsion over No. 5-ranked Jon Pratt of Baldwin.
Durossette won a 5-3 decision over Knoitzer in the quarterfinal round but was pinned by Michael Olsen of Lansing in the semifinals. Olsen went on to win the bracket. He is ranked by the KWCA as the No. 1 wrestler in Class 5A at 152 pounds.
In consolation, Durossette pinned Justin Mead of Baldwin, took a 6-0 decision over Tyler Blankenship of Platte County, Mo., and won a 2-1 decision in a rematch with Konitzer in the third-place match.
Heckman (19-4) drew a first-round by at 126 then took an 8-2 decision over Justin Walker of Collinsville, Okla. Thomas Lisher of Baldwin, ranked No. 4 in 4A, won a 3-1 decision in the quarterfinal.
In consolation, Heckman took a 7-5 decision over Trey Dockery of Platte County, then won a 5-2 verdict over Zachary Martinez of Westminister (Colo.)-Mountain Range. P.J. Cheney won a 5-2 decision over Heckman in the consolation semifinal.
In the fifth-place match, Heckman won a 2-0 decision over Cole Peckham of Glenwood, Iowa.
Blackburn (10-6) pinned Jackson Baber of Platte County in his first match at 285. He went on to pin Bret Fritz of Basehor-Linwood and Chase Miller of Olathe North to advance to the semifinals. There, Jorge Rodriguez of Mountain View pinned Blackburn. He went on to win the weight class with pins in all four of his matches.
Blackburn was pinned by Goddard's Carter Gragg in the consolation semifinal. But then Blackburn pinned Mason Naphy of Lansing, who is ranked No. 6 in Class 5A, in the fifth-place match.

120: Cole Stewart (8-9) lost in the first round to Max Goode of Lenexa St. James, 6-4. He drew a bye in the first round of consolation then pinned Jay Wilcutt of Tonganoxie. Stewart also pinned Spencer Odgen of Basehor-Linwood before being eliminated via an 8-1 decision by Brody Lamb of Smithville, Mo.
132: Christ Stell (3-8) was 0-2. He lost to Kameron Frame of Goddard on a technical fall and to Dannon Brake of Prairie View via pinfall.
160: Jesse Hodge (4-9) was also 0-2. Brett Woodruff of Goddard, ranked No. 4 in Class 5A, won by pinfall and Owen Tuckfield of Baldwin took a 9-5 decision.
170: John Hughes (15-6) received a first-round bye then was pinned by Chance Ogden of Hoyt-Royal Valley. In consolation, Hughes took a 5-1 decision over Ryan Tiers of Clay Center and a 7-3 verdict over Alex Dye of Blue Springs. Scott Birkinsha of Atchison County, who is ranled No. 3 in Class 3-2-1A, eliminated Hughes via pinfall.
220: Chance Crawford (7-5) was pinned by Evan Standlea of Clay Center in the first round. In consolation, he drew a bye and took a 4-0 decision over Dillon Richert of Riley County. Micheal Chau of Olathe North eliminated Crawford via pinfall.
The Tigers will wrestle for the second and final time at home this season Tuesday night beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the FSHS gymnasium. Former Southeast Kansas League foes Iola and Columbus will be the opponents.
