Ermel, De Hoyos receive volleyball honors

Two members of Fort Scott Community College's volleyball team received post-season accolades recently from officials with the Jayhawk Conference as well as from Region VI.

Sophomores Jacy Ermel, a Uniontown High School graduate, and Stephanie De Hoyos were both chosen to the Eastern Division Honorable Mention team by Jayhawk Conference coaches. The Greyhounds finished with a 19-18 record this season.

DeHoyos was also selected for the Second Team of the All-Region VI District M team. District M included those four teams that qualified for post-season play and then sent to Cowley College to compete for a berth in the NJCAA National Tournament.

De Hoyos finished 44th in the nation and sixth in the East in kills per set with an average of 2.98. Ermel had more total kills, 367, which ranked 46th in the nation and fifth in the East.

Other post-season honors were handed out by the Jayhawk Conference. Asya Herron, who graduated from Chanute High School, was named the Eastern Division Coach of the Year for leading her hometown Neosho County Panthers to a 29-8 record and No. 20 national ranking in the final poll. The Panthers were runners-up to Cowley in the District M Tournament.

B.J. Specht of Cowley and Preecy Seever of Johnson County were Co-Players of the Year. Kailee Dudley was named the Freshman of the Year.
