JV volleyball rolling along with 19-6 mark
Fort Scott High School junior varsity volleyball coach Maggie Thompson is happy with her squad so far this season, as the Tigers have posted a 19-6 record so far this seaosn after posting two wins at a quadrangular in Independence Monday night.
"They are a fun team to coach because they are all very smart," Thompson says. "It makes my job easy when I can look at a player and tell her what I want her to do and she is smart enough to put the ball on the court in a position to score."
Last night, the Tigers beat Pittsburg, 25-20, 25-18, and Labette County, 25-23, 25-21. They lost to Independence, 25-18, 10-25, 15-10. Thompson said that this was her team's fifth meeting with Indy this season and that Fort Scott had won the first four matches.
"We just didn't have the serve receive that we normally have," Thompson said. "It is hard to make a comeback when we let the other team score four or five points in a row before we (get) side out."
Thompson reported that Kourtney Heaton served 10 aces and that Aubree Altic had 16 kills.
Jenna Kakas has returned to the team from a serious shoulder injury. Thompson says she has begun to use her left hand more after injuring her right one.
The Tigers will play in Pittsburg Tuesday night with Columbus also in attendance for a triangular. The Fort Scott varsity team will also be there with play beginning at 5 p.m.
