Eagle girls 2nd in 'home' tourney
Uniontown's golf team finished second Monday in their "home" invitational at Woodland Hills Golf Course.
This was the first time this season that the Eagles played 18 holes and that was appropriate considering that the Kansas State High School Activities Association has again appointed Uniontown as host of a Class 3-2-1A Regional Tournament at Woodland Hills. The Regional will be held October 14.
Uniontown shot 436 as a team, well behind champion Eureka's 411 but 20 shots better than third-place Frontenac and 30 more than fourth-place Fredonia.
"I was very pleased with the results," Uniontown head coach Jason Tourtillott said. "Last week we struggled a bit and I feel like we were getting back to where we should be."
Individually, three Eagles earned medals. Torrie Hathaway was on the short end of a scorecard tie-breaker for fifth place after she (50 on the front nine, 53 on the back) and Eureka's Chandler Birkholz (55-48) both shot 103.
There was a five-way tie at 110 that involved two Eagles. Haven Bradbury (55-55) came out on top and was awarded seventh place. Teammate Anna Oberle (55-55) was placed sixth.
"Torrie had a solid round," Tourtillott said. "The only think holding her back from breaking 100 is her short game. Haven was able to recover well from some bad shots and keep her score down. Anna played her best 18-hole tournament. She has made some big improvements from last season to give us a decent fourth score."
Jordan Mason finished with a score 57-56--113 for the Eagles, tying for 14th. KayLynn Crystal shot 63-70--133 for Uniontown and Draven George finished at 86-77--163.
The individual champion was Eureka's Raegan Boone, who shot 47-48--95. Maggie Moody of Frontenac was the only other golfer under 100 with her 50-48--98.
The Eagles play 18 holes again Monday at Anderson County, which will be the last tournament of the regular season.
