JV tennis plays in Parsons tourney

PARSONS -- Fort Scott High School's junior varsity tennis team took part in the Parsons JV Invitational here Monday. The Tigers finished fifth as a team with two fourths, a sixth and a seventh individually.

Alex King in No. 1 singles was one of those fourths. She defeated Selena Perez of Labette County, 6-1, in her first-round match. In the second round, she lost to Morgan Stephens of Coffeyville, 6-2. In the third-place match, Casidee Cox of Independence took a 6-3 win.

Breanna Leslie and Briana Williams finished fourth in No. 1 doubles. They opened with a 6-3 win over Baleigh Seber/Khrystal Smith of Iola. Emily Gatewood/Abbie Ford of Parsons won the next match, 6-0. Chelsea Cushing/Kaylee Bryant of Independence took the third-place match, 6-1.

Ashlee Montojo and Jocey Diaz finished sixth in No. 2 doubles. They lost to Angela Alger/Lynzie King of Chanute in their opening match, 6-2. They drew a bye into the third-place match where they lost to Kierstan Sailsbury/Kara Wilson of Labette County, 6-3.

Krisitan Engle finished seventh in No. 2 singles. She lost to Trina Paul of Pittsburg, 6-0, in the first round, and to Katie Capps of Independence, 6-0, in the second. She fell to the seventh-place match position, where she received a bye.

The Fort Scott junior varsity plays Monday at Chanute beginning at 3 p.m. The JV schedule concludes with a dual at Nevada at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
