CHANUTE -- Uniontown's girls golf team, representing one of the two smallest schools in the field, took in sixth place in the Chanute Invitational here Monday while Fort Scott High School finished in eighth place.

Uniontown shot a four-woman, nine-hole score of 222 while Fort Scott finished with a 234. Labette County won the team title with a 195 followed by Girard at 204, Eureka 208, Anderson County 213 and Chanute 221.

Uniontown just missed out on an individual medal as Torrie Hathaway tied for 11th place with a season-best score of 50. Haven Bradbury shot 51 to tie for 13th while Anna Oberle came in with a 57 and Jordan Mason came in with a 54.

Fort Scott's best score was posted by Katie Brown, who shot a season-best 55, which tied for 22nd place. Morgan Robertson finished with a 59, Hayden Shelden and Maggie McDonald each with 60s and Emily Martin at 66.

"Well, same story, different day," Fort Scott head coach Karen Curran said. "I was really happy that Katie Brown stepped up and played well today. I'm still hoping that everyone else has that breakthrough day when we need it the most."

Defending Class 4A State champion Timbrelee McNair of Girard won the individual crown with her score of 40 followed by Labette County's Eric Gartner with a 41, Coffeyville's Anna Pool with a 42 and Chanute's Abbi Funk with a 43.

As this was one of the three Southeast Kansas League designated tournaments -- the first one was at Oswego, hosted by Labette County, on Sept. 3 and the third will be at Pittsburg Oct. 1 -- results here had impacts on the league championship chase.

Labette County has all but clinched the league title. The Grizzlies have a two-tournament total of 408, which is 48 strokes better than Pittsburg and 54 better than Fort Scott. LCHS would have to finish in second place by at least 49 strokes at Pittsburg to drop out of first place. Chanute is not eligible for the team crown because it didn't have a complete team at Oswego and the others -- Coffeyville and Parsons -- did not have full teams in either tournament.

Gartner increased her lead over Pool in the individual standings by one stroke, now leading 81 to 84 with Funk in third with a total of 89. They're the only three league golfers with two-tourney scores under 100. Robertson is in the top 10 with a 113 and McDonald is 11th at 114.
