Fort Scott eighth-graders 3rd at Uniontown

UNIONTOWN -- The Fort Scott Middle School eighth-grade "A" team finished in third place at the Uniontown Junior High Tournament here Saturday.

Fort Scott and Uniontown were in the same pool, which was won by Marmaton Valley Junior High. The Wildcats went on to defeated Jayhawk Junior High of Mound City in the championship match.

Fort Scott defeated Uniontown, 15-10, 11-15, 15-11 in the first match for both schools in pool play. FSMS head coach Kelly Toll reported that Madison Cook had 8 kills and Jenny Denton had 7.

Fort Scott lost the second match to Marmaton Valley, 16-14, 15-0. Then MVJH beat Uniontown, 16-14, 15-7 in the final match.

In the other pool, Jayhawk beat Crest, 15-10, 15-11 and Pleasanton, 15-12, 15-9. Pleasanton defeated Crest, 8-15, 15-6, 15-13, which gave the Blu-Jays second in their pool.

Uniontown swept Crest, 15-1, 15-5 in the fifth-place match. Fort Scott beat Pleasanton, 15-10, 15-13, for third. Jayhawk took the final from Marmaton Valley in three sets, 14-16, 15-9, 15-7.

Fort Scott Middle School's "A" squad improved to 3-5 on the season. The Tigers, along with the seventh-grade "A" and "B" and eighth-grade "B", are not scheduled to play again until Sept. 30. That will be all teams' last home match of the season against Parsons and the last of the year for the seventh graders. The first match will begin at 4 p.m.

Uniontown (3-3), which also beat Northeast, 25-17, 19-25, 15-6 last Thursday will play this Thursday at Marmaton Valley with seventh and eighth graders in action.
