Eagles 3rd at Eureka

EUREKA -- Uniontown's gold team finished third out of five teams at the Eureka Invitational Wednesday. Although Caney Valley won by 29 strokes, there were just three strokes separating third from sixth.

Uniontown finished with a four-woman, nine-hole score of 214. Eureka was second with 213. Augusta was fifth with 215 and Anderson County, the last team with enough players eligible for team honors, finished at 216.

"I really felt like our girls did a great job," Eagle head coach Jason Tourtillott said. "Due to the weather, we hadn't hit a ball for five or six days so I didn't know what to expect. They continue to lower their team score each week and most have been able to get a few strokes better."

Jordan Mason finished with a score of 51, earning the 10th-place medal. Torrie Hathaway just missed medaling with a 52. Anna Oberle finished with a 54 and Haven Bradbury shot 57.

"I hope they can continue to build on their confidence and swing and keep it up throughout the season," Tourtilltott said. "The team scores have been so tight I think they are realizing how important every shot is and really focusing on not letting the bad holes ruin their round."

Bailey Rockers of Anderson County was the individual champion with a score of 40. Raegan Boone of Eureka was second with a 43. Caney Valley's Desiree Nelson won a scorecard playoff over teammate Courtney Garnder for third place after both shot 45.

All six Caney Valley golfers finished in the top 10, taking places three through eight.

Uniontown will send a junior varsity team to Girard this afternoon with tee time at 1 p.m. The varsity Eagles will play at Chanute Monday and make up a rained-out tournament from Sept. 16 at Parsons on Tuesday. Both of those tournaments will tee off at 3 p.m.
