Ross Robert Bryant
Ross Robert Bryant, age 73, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at his home. He was born Jan. 17, 1940, in Denver, Colo., the son of Wilburn Jackson Bryant and Myrtle Patterson Bryant. Ross spent a career with the United States Army and was a member of the Green Beret Special Forces. Following his military service, Ross married Molly Ann Thirman on July 18, 1980. She preceded him in death on July 31, 2011. Ross had been active with the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars where he often performed military honors at the U.S. National Cemetery. He was also a member of the Elks and the Combat Infantrymen. He was an avid golfer and often participated in area tournaments. He also enjoyed bowling and going to the casinos.
Survivors include two sisters, Sharon Ihrig of Colorado and Jackie Flecthall of Missouri; a step-daughter, Susan Battah, of Florida; and two daughters, DeAnna and Alma. Also surviving are several step-grandchildren and nieces and nephews including, Diana Allen and Curtis Ihrig, Holly Manuel and Lindsey underwood, all of Colorado and Vincent Shaffer, of Fort Scott. In addition to his wife, Molly, he was preceded in death by his parents; three step-sons, George, Elias and Joseph Battah, and a brother, Steven Hedges.
There was cremation. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the U. S. National Cemetery.
